Easy Prey 07:51
And the days just keep on rolling over you Pick up your mind and kneel Beside the spinning wheel How’s it feel? And I can’t believe it won’t get through to you Behind the devil’s back The angel cut the slack Take us back And the monkey on my back Is telling me to leave And I’m drifting in between He lays his hands upon my head Drives the whale up from my bed To turn my eyes within And all the shadows up the wall On crooked limbs they crawl around you They fall around you The circus is coming to take you away And the motion passed without a cursory glance Behind the prison gate Innocence lost the way Easy prey And the monkey on my back is slowly turning black He says to me that he wants To play the game again But I ain’t your friend And the monkey on my back Is telling me to leave And I’m drifting in between He lays his hands upon my head Drives the whale up from my bed To turn my eyes within An open door, a missing key Lost among the leaves, the moon in winter Will soon begin to Reveal its colour, building a bridge to your head

The poison needle tip is rising through my bed And from the belfry rings the curse of the undead The hangman lays the burlap sack over my head And I can’t catch my breath The compass cracks with my reflection still within The engine’s choked with dust, I’m caught in a tailspin I pray to no one in particular, forgive my sins Still I can’t keep from sinking Heaven’s gaze I turn away Furrowed brow and sick with pain Ruminate on wasted days Fallow futures weave an endless maze Separate and alone I regret to the bone every moment I am shown Like the poor Cherokee Flayed and fixed to the wheel of a careless industry But devastation of soul Feeds the germination of a seed that you have sown Roots start taking hold As shoots tear through the mould My mind flower unfolds (I’m) Swimming upstream (Love) For no reason (Light) I can feel it (Time) Got no meaning The poison needle is a symptom of being The compass in this place is shed of all meaning The hangman lifts his cowl, a smile revealing I see it is my own

Landlord up in the sky Grandlord spit in my eye Quicksand swallowing me Sweat gland I cannot breathe Band chords stab at the wind Bank laws how can I win? Green mould hole in the wall Deep cold sucking my soul Here in my tree High up enough that I can see Smoke from the timber industry No home is there for me Only a place I tend to be Counting the days down until I hear… Ding-dong, knock at the door King Kong coming for more Price hike do what you like Too tight? Get on your bike Hell-bent, hot to the core No rent, not anymore Hate vent, said it before No rent, not anymore Here in my tree Over the ground where I can see Huddled below ‘neath the canopy Like shells upon the shore Traces of life that came before Figures and forms looking a lot like me You collect my money from the gilded curtain You rip out my garden with the stroke of a pen You invisible destructor, tyrannical overpaid Invoker of archaic little relics of time Why should I waste my breath on you? You steal the berry from the mouth of my ken Suffocate the future I’ve been taking to bed Sign away the promise of a prophet for profit Gets you a double garage and a Tuscan villa of white Why should I waste my breath on you? You reach you leech you bleed me dry Try as I might the fight is fixed A lolly in a world of licks

Light wake soul shake Steel black wave break Sky paint eyes white Earth green clean dream Night strange shadow plague Love torn leaf blade Arrow heart narrow brain Free born slave made Though the message is the mode Of communication Still there is no holy war Without some deviation Pin a picture to the wall You keep falling away from You know it don’t really mean You’re a seed in the brain farm Forward is the only way Is that something you might say?

i. March of Love Arnold played the organ In a church the nightshade hid from sight Each time Mendelssohn’s chimes Signalled someone else’s bride He cried to the sunrise, “I must find myself a wife!” When outside selling kutti-pi A flash of silver hair Pulls him from his chair He takes the elevator Finds the corner where She’d peddling her wares Arnold boldly dares And with the devil’s breath He whispers in her ear And her eyes like black fire fix to his Beguiled in the church aisle A groom grows impatient of his love Suddenly wide-eyed and chemically hypnotised She arrives on the organ player’s glove Though he’d see a ring on finger three It seems her mind is out to eat Oh my darling one Oh lord what, what have you done? He hastens to object Grips the parapet With lips still tingling from her cherry cigarette Silence veils the crowd Arnold takes a bow Darling look at what you’ve become Yourself within this little dream of mine And I’m destined to believe in you only I’ve synthesised my perfect wife Now through your cracks like water will I flow Til I control every inch of you ii. Swamp Boogie Baby knit your arms around me Slither shake your soulstring at me Double up the dosage in you Tango for your life Don’t you feel me deep within you Pulling on your strings to move you Pucker up now get in closer You can’t help but comply You’ll be safe with me forever and ever Inside this insatiable Your not quite normal picture A love scene I’ve seen again and again On the viewscreen buried deep inside my head Layer after layer after layer… iii. Long Live Slime She politely descends from the stair Deep in her circuitry scorched and impaired Hair in palls of white No-coloured eyes Doll devoid of light and shorn of life Come to me sweet symmetry Touch me Feel me But she’s quite unaware of his hands Tracing the lines of her mammary glands She belongs to me How can this be? All these days I’ve yearned for this to see Could it be my symphony Is turning to bitter elegy? Arnold puts his gloved hand Into the quivering mass of slime That was his lady wife She politely swallows All of his vitamins like a flower Beautiful cannibal
